Alliance Healthcare Foundation Selects the i2 $1 Million Challenge Grant Phase 1 Cohort

Earlier this year, Nex Cubed announced that we are partnering with the Alliance Healthcare Foundation as the Innovation Partner for their $1M 2022 Innovation Initiative (i2) Challenge Grant! The Initiative seeks market-based and/or transformational systems-change solutions with the potential to improve access, quality and health outcomes, increase capacity, reduce costs for the most systematically marginalized and under-resourced populations in San Diego and/or Imperial counties.

Alliance Healthcare Foundation received 63 applications for this year’s Innovation Initiative (i2) $1 Million Challenge Grant. Applications were received from social impact entrepreneurs in San Diego and Imperial counties, as well as from outside our region, thanks to the help of many Innovation Affiliates who were helping spread the word of the grant opportunity.

Evaluations and selection of this first cohort were done by a team from Alliance in partnership with five Community Residents, individuals with live experience in health disparities.

In this first phase of the i2 journey, 25 qualified applicants were selected based on their solution’s description for closing an equity gap to advance health and wellness; focusing on root causes of inequities, and including the population(s) they seek to serve in the development of their solution. This Phase 1 cohort will participate in 10 weeks of entrepreneurial and educational workshops, including pitch practice, through the direction of Innovation Partner, Nex Cubed and in partnership with Alliance.

Welcome 2022 i2 candidates!
