AI Platform Finds Fighting Disinformation Can Reunite Societies & Even Save Lives.

Since the start of the pandemic, disinformation has exploded online, fueling dramatic headlines, creating chaos and confusion, damaging trust, and in some cases, taking lives. Nex Cubed portfolio company, Blackbird.AI, defines disinformation as the spread of false information with the intent to cause harm.

“During a crisis, the combination of disinformation and malicious misinformation can cause significant damage and even loss of life.” – Wasim Khaled, Co-Founder & CEO of Blackbird.AI.

Last month, the company published its COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Disinformation Report – Volume 3 after receiving a number of requests for insights into disinformation activity and threats around recent events across digital media. These insights are driven by Blackbird.AI’s disinformation analysis platform that looks at enormous amounts of content to identify potential disinformation flowing across social media and news sites.

For the report, Blackbird.AI analyzed over 119 million tweets over a period of 18 days and found over 32 million of those tweets were manipulated content from three key narratives that we’re probably all familiar with or have at least heard of:

  1. ‘REOPEN’ America from COVID-19 shutdowns

  2. Militias & the ‘Boogaloo’ movement

  3. General & medical conspiracies around COVID-19

Blackbird.AI is leveraging innovative technologies such as AI, blockchain, and crowdsourcing to bring information integrity to the digital world at a time when it’s needed the most.

Blackbird’s findings on disinformation have been featured in ForbesFortuneBloombergVentureBeat, and many more publications.

In May, Blackbird.AI was awarded a United States Air Force AFWERX Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) 20.1 Phase 1 contract for Disinformation Analysis.
